It's been 120 days since I last typed words in this space. I'm not certain I have a purpose for being here today on this page once again, but with the new year presenting itself in all its newness, I feel compelled to be here.
This time of year creates a sense of purpose in most of us. I reflect on the last year and all that has happened and think about the new days ahead and how I want them to be better and purposeful. I want to do more, see more, love more, enjoy more and be more.
How will that happen? What will that sentence look like in 2014? How will I do, see, love, enjoy and be more?
Do More
Doing more sounds daunting doesn't it. Have you seen my calendar? The thought of doing more just sounds exhausting really. I don't mean DO more in that sense. Trust me, I don't have many extra hours lying around the house. By "do more" I mean follow through with or complete. So many ideas float around in my head; projects get started, but never completely finished; unimportant distractions (phone, computer, tv, social media) get in the way. (Maybe that's where my extra hours are hiding.) I want to do more by simply following through and completing things that already lie before me. It's not complicated. Simply do.
Seeing more is a must for me this year. Really seeing. Deeply seeing. I want to open my eyes to the beauty around me. I want to see people's hearts and make certain they know I see them in their time of joy, sadness or transition. Seeing is using more than your eyes to sense what is before you. Seeing is awareness. It is an awareness of the energy that fills our days and acknowledging it and truly seeing it for what it is. It's an opportunity to really know. Simply see.
Love More
Loving more seems so easy doesn't it? How can we not love our family and friends more and more? Loving more requires effort though sometimes. It requires me to be soft when I feel angry or hurt. It requires me to be forgiving. It requires me to inspire those beside my path with true, honest, love. Loving more is necessary in a world filled with turmoil and difficulties. It means I must be patient and understanding more than ever before as we all try and find our path in this world. Simply love.
Enjoy More
Enjoying more for me is a big one. I tend to be a little uptight and controlling and forget to have fun in the process. The phrase, life is about the journey not the destination, comes to mind. I tend to worry too much, plan too much. Did I mention worry too much? Letting things happen as they happen opens the door for enjoyment to filter in. I need to open that door more. Simply enjoy.
Be More
Being more is at the forefront of my mind this year. I have read many, many books this last year on being present. What does that really mean? Be here. Be in the now. Be in the moment. For me it means giving in to the laughter, the messy house, the piles of laundry, and simply letting things be. I don't want to become more, I want to be more. I am very comfortable with where my path has taken me and now is the time to celebrate being me and just be in the here and now. Worry will always be there and when we let it sneak into the room, it normally takes over the joy and precious time that we can never get back. Simply be.
I hope you will take a few moments today and simply open your heart to the amazing possibilities that are ahead of you this year. Everything is possible and this year I hope to do, see, love, enjoy and be more.
