My husband and I went to Bermuda when I was pregnant with our first son. It was one of those vacations that you have to pinch yourself to be reminded that you’re actually there, surrounded by the blue of the ocean. There were colors of blue and green that I truly had never seen before, so deep and rich. We actually bought a hand-blown vase and Christmas ornament to remind us of the uniqueness of the colors.

I think it’s important for husbands and wives to carve out time for each other and not be distracted with life, work, kids, bills, schedules, schedules (did I say schedules, twice?). We need time to recharge our batteries and enjoy each other’s company, go for a walk, watch an old movie or eat M&M’s and popcorn for dinner. We all get busy with life, it happens, come rain or shine. There will always be one more meeting to go to or one more thing to wash. That will not go away. I promise you, it won’t.
I think I may need to make a plan for us, be it camping in the backyard (not) or fixing a nice romantic dinner complete with candles and music, just a little something to look forward to together. It doesn’t have to be a trip to Bermuda or London to be special. The thought really does count. And, the menu should be easy; M&M’s and popcorn by candlelight. Simple AND delicious.
