I am a morning person and love the pink and orange hues of the sky and normally awake around 5:30 AM each day. Now I don’t get up at that time, but my mind is awake and somewhat alert. 5:30 AM. NOT 4:00 AM.
For some reason, this morning, our two cats decided it was time to play the “I’ll chase you, if you’ll chase me, then we can toss the rubber band back and forth” game at 4:00 AM!! Up the stairs, down the stairs, over the couch, up the stairs, jump up onto the dresser to chew flowers, ending with a 10 minute rubber band tug of war under the bedroom door, with one cat on either side of the door. So, not only did they bat the door back and forth twenty times, but spoke their comments to each other rather loudly.
I think they would have played for hours, if it were up to them, but as my husband slept deeply not hearing a meow or door slamming, I decided it was up to me to end the volleying of the rubber band match. I turned on the hall light, grabbed the rubber band and slammed it into my bedside table as if to tell them, “HA! Game over.” Within three minutes both cats were looking at the drawer and knew their fun was in there, but neither one wanted to attempt to open it up. Instead, they both jumped up on the bed and did their “walk around in a circle three times to get settled” dance and went to sleep.
Needlesstosay, I did not. I moved over to give them room and tapped them both on the head and listened to the birds chirp and sing their good morning song to the world as the two of them snored. Yes, snored. So, tonight I may need to do a rug check to see if they’ve hidden any other toys under there that could be brought out for 4:00 AM game time. I am a morning person, but not a 4:00 AM morning person.
