My 9 year old lost one of his baby molars yesterday at school and was so excited. It had been wiggling since Monday when he got his braces off and with one tug, it was out. He had it wadded up in a wet paper towel and when we got home, he asked for a baggie to put it in and wanted to clean the residual blood off so the tooth fairy wouldn’t think it was gross.
We put the tooth in the baggie and then added a little salt and vinegar and cleaned it right up. Looked brand new. In his excitement for the her arrival, he took it upstairs right away and put it under his pillow sealed in its bag. And, he even wrote her a note. This was the talk of the afternoon, but then came dinner, baseball practice, soccer practice and a cub scout pack meeting. You know where I’m going with this don’t you?
Bath time came and went and off to bed he went, filled with the excitement of the tooth fairy’s arrival. Well, shame on me her! The tooth fairy missed her stop at our house last night. Can you believe it? How could she be so forgetful? We’re blaming it on the snowstorm we woke up to this morning. Obviously she missed her flight and was unable to fly because of the weather. (That explanation seemed to go over pretty well, even though there was a tinge of disappointment in his face and an effort to hold in the tears when I fibbed explained the situation.)
My heart sank when he came in to tell us. How could I she forget? Yes, he still believes in her and the Easter Bunny and Santa. This little piece of his childhood will be gone before I know it, so how could I she have overlooked this? You can be sure that she will make up for it BIG time. Maybe a gold dollar coin is in order along with a bag of M&Ms AND a response to the note he left her. She wants him to believe forever!
